Of course I can't quit thinking about the Ahwatukee house. Could it be our diamond in the rough!I found this image of a modernized A-frame. I think it is a good point of reference, since the Ahwatukee house is not a typical block construction. The sky light in the top of this house could work for the front over hang "thing" of the Ahwatukee house.
While, I would not do this much open design in the desert (the house faces East / West), I like the big windows and would likely shutter them and add a concrete raised bed (above) of either palms or bamboo, since 1/2 of our family is severely allergic to desert plant life.
